Attenborough lake reflections by davepuls Attenborough lake reflections by davepuls
This painting is my experimenting with a new direction for my knife painting - a fairly realistic landscape, but impressionist in style. It is based on photos and an oil pastel sketch which I made at the location (Attenborough nature reserve, Nottingham, UK). Here is a link to the oil pastel sketch: [link]

The painting is 12x9 inches, Cryla and Liquitex acrylics on canvas board. All painted with painting knives. Lots of impasto texture, but not as much as my usual!

Please do let me have your comments!

Thanks - I photograph my artwork by laying it on the ground outside in direct sunlight, so that it casts a shadow from the impasto texture.  It's worth waiting for a day with good sunlight.

When looking at your gallery, one can notice this painting clearly stands out. Mainly because of the difference in style, but it is also noticeable you've spent more time working on this one than on some other paintings of yours. I really, really like this one. :)

Thank you, I really appreciate your comments. I often think of doing something similar, but haven't yet got round to it. This painting is quite small, but I think it helped being on canvas board, as it is a strong surface and could take lots of layers and scraping extra paint on top of the heavy impasto base.

This is beautiful !I love colors and the technique. Some people think that details are most important in the drawing but good artist can caught an atmosphere of the situation in some shapes.

wow what a talent you have, the painting knifes is definately and interesting way to do a peice like this, it adds so much depth and energy. Very beautiful.

Is the nature reserve named after or owned by David Attenborough by any chance or is it a place name?

Thank you!

It was opened by David Attenborough, but I think the name is just coincidence, as it is also the name of the neighbouring village.

Thank you! Yes, I have wanted to paint it for some time, but it is quite difficult to find a view that works. This was a combination of 2 slightly different views...

This is really, really wet, which is actually somewhat difficult to pull off with acrylic. Well done.
